AN apology entails an expression of remorse for wrong doing. It derives from a sentiment of guilt. It may be immediate or delayed. The person making the apology expects that his or her apology will be accepted. An apology, if properly made and accepted, will restore a relationship to its previous level of concord.   A good apology should be made soon after the offence has been committed. Delaying an apology unduly may make it pretty difficult for the mistake to be rectified. To allow a spouse, relative, neighbour or a friend to nurse a grievance for too long may generate bitterness.

  Finally, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is free to contest the governorship of Anambra State, the place they call Home For All. Imagine the irony: on a day (Thursday) newspapers in the land were running shouting headlines that the Appeal Court had 'shackled' Soludo's ambition to be Anambra Governor, the Supreme Court overturned last Wednesday's judgment of Mary Odili and other Justices of the Appeal Court, barring Prof. Soludo from parading himself as the PDP flag-bearer for the February 6, 2010 governorship election in Anambra State.

Last Saturday, 18 members of the Unity Group loyal to the former governor of Oyo State, Alhaji Rashidi Ladoja, were burnt beyond recognition when a bus conveying them to Okeho in Kajola Council had a head-on collision with a Toyota Dyna carrying planks and burst into flames. Five people in the Toyota were also burnt beyond recognition , bringing the death toll to 23.

DATELINE: Eke Market Day, 1914, Umudike, Eastern Region, Nigeria:   IT was the year, 1914, shortly after amalgamation of the Northern and Southern Protectorates to form a combined Colony of Nigeria by Lord Lugard, Father Bartholomew, a Caucasian Priest from Ireland was posted to Umudike in Eastern Nigeria. He was having a hard time convincing the natives of Umudike to send their children to the mission school. The bulky Irish Priest had been in the village for five months having only a handful of converts.

THE year is coming to an end; and as a pet owner how did you fare? Did you do all that is necessary of you? Were you fair to your pets? Were you fair to your conscience?   Pet ownership has become such an emotional issue that it is so expedient to ask you all those questions. My favorite line has always been: these creatures did not choose to come to us, we chose them. And with this deliberate decision, came a truck load of responsibilities.
