Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has lauded the achievements of the Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), Okitipupa, under Prof. Temi Emmanuel Ologunorisa as the vice chancellor, promising stronger government support for the institution.
Aiyedatiwa made the commendation during the ninth convocation ceremony of the institution held on Tuesday.
As a testament to the university’s commitment to academic excellence and research, the excited VC told the guests about remarkable achievements recorded by some faculty members as well as a graduand, Oluwaferanmi Aderoju, who won the second-best undergraduate project in Applied Geophysics in Nigeria organised by the Nigerian Geological Agency.
Ologunorisa also took the gathering through the progress the university made in the accreditation of its programmes; admission of its graduates for higher learning in foreign universities; development of infrastructure; increase in student enrolment; staff welfare and stable academic calendar.
The vice chancellor, who urged the government to upgrade the State Specialist Hospital in Okitipupa or Igbokoda to a teaching hospital so that OAUSTECH could start its College of Medicine in earnest, also craved implementation of budgetary allocation to the institution and completion of projects.
Aiyedatiwa, who described the achievements as superlative and worthy of commendation, said the government would upgrade the State Specialist Hospital in Okitipupa to a teaching hospital as soon as OAUSTECH is ready for its College of Medicine to take off.
He also promised the government’s support for infrastructure development in the institution.
