The University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) will host the 291st edition of its prestigious series of inaugural lectures on Thursday, October 16, 2025, to be delivered by Professor Emmanuel Olugbade Ojo of the Department of Political Science, Faculty of Social Sciences. The lecture is titled “The Worship of an Unknown Deity”.
The Guardian gathered that the event will be held at the University Auditorium, Main Campus, beginning at 5:00 p.m. It will be chaired by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Wahab Olasupo Egbewole (SAN). It will attract members of the academic community, policymakers, students, and the general public, as the institution continues its tradition of promoting intellectual discourse and academic excellence.
Professor Ojo, a seasoned scholar of Comparative Politics and Governance, holds B.Sc. (Hons), M.Sc., and Ph.D. degrees in Political Science from the University of Ibadan. He is widely known for his research on democratic governance, civil-military relations, and institutional reform in Nigeria and Africa. The professor served as the Political Adviser during the first term of the late Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State. He was appointed as the Chief of Staff to the Governor.
The lecture is expected to explore thought-provoking perspectives on political power, leadership, and the paradoxes of governance, themes that resonate deeply with contemporary socio-political realities in Nigeria.
