The Saint Patrick’s College Asaba Old Boys Association (SPCOBA) has stressed the need for schools to instill values of excellence and discipline in students to shape future generations.

The body made the remark at its three-day national convention, held in Benin, Edo State, to celebrate the school’s 82nd anniversary.

The association paid tribute to its alma mater, commending the school for instilling values that have played an important role in the lives of its members.

National President of the association, Tony Odiadi, said the gathering provided a platform for alumni to reconnect and reflect on their experiences, which have continued to guide them.

“It is always an opportunity for us to bond, reminisce on childhood memories, and chart the way forward,” he said.

President of the Lagos Branch, Francis Dike, highlighted the school’s cosmopolitan outlook and its impact on alumni.

“The school gave us so much. It energised me and instilled values that remain with us today,” he noted.

Acting Chairman of the Benin branch, Thomas Obanor, emphasised the moral foundation laid by the institution.

Chairman of the National Convention Planning Committee, Kenneth Ihensekhien, expressed joy at the reunion, noting that the event allowed old classmates to reconnect and rekindle friendships from their youth.

Joining virtually, former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Dele Ezeoba, spoke on national security, stressing the importance of strong family systems and proactive measures.

“Prevention means being proactive, nipping threats in the bud before they occur. It is key to safeguarding our environment,” he advised.

Principal Attorney, Mozia Lawyers, Kenneth Mozia, urged Nigerians to exercise restraint in flaunting wealth, warning of the harsh realities of the times.

“We must be careful in whatever we do. The times are hard, and we must acknowledge that,” he cautioned.

The convention also featured goodwill messages from other schools and the presentation of awards of excellence to distinguished members.
