Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Kano, has accused the university authority of mismanagement of resources.
Also, the union requested the audited reports and Budget Performance Reports of the University for the period from January 2020 to December 2024.
In a release jointly signed by Chairman Allyu Yusuf Ahmad, PhD, and Secretary Abubakar Ibrahim Tukur, PhD, at the end of a congress, the union insisted that the delay in the release of the financial reports constituted a flagrant violation of the Statute of KUST (Amendment) 2017.
ASUU expressed dismay over the leadership style of the University’s Administration, which they claimed was characterised by insubordination and lack of transparency and accountability.
The union requested that management provide clarification on the “bogus and unexplained” expenditures contained in the Budget Performance Reports for the First Quarter 2025 and Second Quarter 2025.
The university lecturers stressed that recruitment required several academic staff, especially in the newly established department, and regularise the appointments of members who were unduly placed on contract appointments rather than permanent ones.
“To that effect, the union calls on stakeholders and good citizens of the state to prevail on the Vice-Chancellor to ensure quick resolution of the issues stated and to run the University in strict compliance with enabling laws and with a sense of patriotism to avoid industrial disharmony,” it said.
The union called for improvements in the working and living conditions of staff and students to support effective research, teaching, and learning.
Recently, ASUU announced the suspension of its two-week warning strike. ASUU President, Prof. Christopher Piwuna, made the announcement in a press conference last week in Abuja.
He confirmed that negotiations with the Federal Government negotiation team have commenced in earnest, even as he gave the government one month to conclude negotiations on the issues that led to the industrial action.
The President stated that the decision to suspend the strike was made after an emergency meeting of the union’s National Executive Council (NEC), held from October 21 to 22, 2025.
According to him, the NEC concluded that while the objectives of the warning strike had not been fully achieved, significant progress had been made through renewed discussions with government representatives.
“In summary, the emergency NEC meeting resolved that the warning strike is hereby suspended with effect from midnight, Wednesday, the 22nd of October 2025,
“Should government fail to resolve the issues within the one-month window, it reserves the right to resume the strike action without further notice and
“ASUU appeals to patriotic Nigerians and stakeholders in education so prevail on government to speedily conclude the renegotiation of the 2009 Agreement and other outstanding issues,” he said.
