The Bauchi State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and a private firm, New Globe, are considering a partnership to deploy’ 360-degree solutions’ technology in service delivery and monitoring for quality education.
The Team Lead of New Globe, Dr. Ahmed Golori, while presenting the organisation’s tech-driven education solutions to the Executive Chairman of the State SUBEB and other top officials of the Board on Friday, said that the firm would guide the state in accessing grants and providing implementation technical support.
According to Golori, there is educational poverty in the Northern part of Nigeria, including out-of-school children, teacher absenteeism, and other ineffective methods that jeopardise learning outcomes and contribute to some negative indicators in the education sector.
He described the project as a support system that spans various aspects of SUBEB’s education framework – including classrooms, teachers, pupils, and the governor. He mentioned that the organisation has devised a model whereby authorities monitor when administrators and teachers start work and deliver their lessons, subject to oversight by either the Board’s Chairman or the Governor.
The Team Lead stated that similar projects have been carried out by the organisation in Edo, Lagos, Bayelsa, Kwara, and Jigawa states, and are currently operating in six countries worldwide.
While responding, the Executive Chairman of SUBEB, Alh. Adamu Mohammed Duguri, stated the state’s willingness to collaborate with the firm to reform the education system. He mentioned that the Board is committed to delivering quality service and will do everything possible to partner with any organisation to enhance its service.
Duguri said that under his watch, the Board is committed to reducing the out-of-school menace and has improved education infrastructure and equipment to aid learning. According to him, the Board would review the proposed partnership and determine the modalities for the project.
Meanwhile, SUBEB has arrested one Umar Abubakar for allegedly stealing school desks from Yelwan Kundum Primary School in Bauchi Local Government Area.
The Permanent Secretary of SUBEB, Abdulmuminu Jibrin, told journalists on Wednesday that security operatives apprehended the suspect the previous Friday night, following a tip-off from community leaders.
“The arrest was made possible by the vigilance of community leaders and the swift action of security agents. The board is committed to ensuring that justice is served as a deterrent to others,” Jibrin said.
He added that SUBEB would continue to work with security agencies and local communities to protect school properties from theft and vandalism.
Jibrin also warned that strict measures are in place to prosecute anyone caught stealing educational materials.
