The Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE), Rumuolumeni, Port Harcourt, has announced that 2,946 of its students have benefited from the first batch of disbursements under the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) for the 2024/2025 academic session.
The Acting Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Onuchuku Onuchuku, disclosed this in a statement in Port Harcourt, noting that the disbursement represents a significant step toward easing financial challenges faced by students. He added that over 1,400 additional students are currently undergoing verification for payment.
According to him, the full list of beneficiaries has been published on the university’s official website to ensure transparency and accountability in the process.
Professor Onuchuku explained that students who had already paid their tuition before the release of the loans would be refunded, while those yet to make payments would have their portals updated to reflect the new fee status. He stressed that no student would be denied access to services while their payments were being processed.
He expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the NELFUND scheme, describing it as an initiative that has eased access to higher education. He also acknowledged the role of the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, and the Chief Executive Officer of NELFUND, Mr. Akintunde Sawyerr, in implementing the scheme.
“The NELFUND payment has alleviated financial burdens for students and demonstrates the organization’s sustained commitment to supporting and empowering future generations,” Professor Onuchuku said.
The Acting Vice Chancellor added that the initiative has given students renewed hope and motivation to focus on their studies without the pressure of financial distractions.
