Provost warns graduating students against cybercrime

The Provost, Federal College of Education (Technical), Umunze, Prof. Theresa Okoli, has cautioned graduating students against engaging in cybercrime, warning that it could have devastating consequences on their future careers.

Speaking at the institution’s joint convocation ceremony, Okoli urged the graduating students to focus on building sustainable careers and to pursue postgraduate studies rather than indulge in antisocial behaviour.

She noted that cyber business has become a prominent activity among Nigerian youths, but warned that it poses a significant threat to their professional lives.

A total of 1,860 students received the Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) and Professional Diploma in Education (PDE) certificates during the ceremony.

She enjoined the graduands to be worthy ambassadors of the institution, to invest in knowledge and to avoid cybercrime.

The provost identified low enrolment as one of the challenges confronting the college, but expressed optimism that, with the dual mode programme, things would improve.

Okoli emphasised that education is the most enduring currency of greatness, urging graduates to prioritise building flourishing careers.

Already, she stated that the college has introduced initiatives such as compulsory Information and Communication Technology (ICT) training and the ICT Academy to equip students with employable skills.
