Samson, Eze, Ogbonnaya shine at  Caleb Int’l Mathematics competition

A pupil of Franciscan Nursery and Primary School, Osun State, Olusola Ayomide Samson has won the 2023 edition of Caleb International Mathematics Competition.
  
While Vanessa, Chinwekene Eze of Pampers Private School, Lagos, clinched the second position, Michael Ogbonnaya of Redeemers Int’l School, Apapa, Lagos, emerged second runner-up.
  
They would be rewarded with the prize money of N500, 000, N400, 000 and N300, 000, respectively. The Mathematics Championship is an annual competition for pupils in years five and six, and between nine and 13 years across the country. It is designed for young mathematically inclined pupils. 
  
The objectives of the competition, according to the school, is to identify pupils with high mathematical acumen; encourage such pupils with incentives to keep them motivated; expose them to opportunities that enhance their excellence; and encourage others to strive for excellence.

 About 535 pupils participated in the first stage of the competition, after which 60 moved to the second stage, and finally, the last stage where nine pupils competed for honour. It was in the final stage that the three winners emerged for the 2023 edition.
  
Aside from the winners, the 60 pupils that qualified for the second stage of the competition were awarded a 25 per cent tuition fee waiver for the new school session.
  
Director General, Caleb Group of Schools, Dr Funmi Oboye, said the mission of the school is to raise godly leaders, who would maintain a consistent record of moral and academic excellence.
   
“We can see this being replicated in the lives of our students. In addition to this, the motto of our school is “Faith in God”, whosoever puts his trust in God, will not be ashamed, hence, our continuous success as a group of schools.”

A retired Director of Schools Intervention, Lagos State, Mrs Adeyinka Adeniyi, who lauded the school for organising such a competition, said Caleb college, as a faith- based school, has qualified and dedicated teachers, good curriculum, conducive learning environment and safeguarding. 
 
“As we all know, mathematics is a tough subject but when there are events like competitions, it makes children happy, it boosts their morale,” she added.
