UNIUYO to award 174 first-class honours at 29th, 30th convocation

The University of Uyo (UNIUYO) is set to celebrate a major milestone with its 29th and 30th combined convocation ceremony, scheduled for November 9-11, 2024.

The event will see 174 outstanding students receive first-class honors degrees, a testament to the university’s commitment to academic excellence.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Nyaudoh Ndaeyo, in a press conference at the University’s main campus in Uyo on Tuesday announced that the combined convocation will feature 12,450 graduands, comprising Postgraduate Degree Recipients: 1,167, First-Degree Holders and 10,835, Diploma Recipients: 411 and 37 Certificates.

Notably, 56 students from the 2020/2021 session and 118 from the 2021/2022 session will receive first-class degrees, demonstrating the university’s dedication to nurturing top talent.

The Vice Chancellor also used the occasion to unveil three distinguished Nigerians – Chief Effiong Daniel Afiakurue, Mrs. Halima Suleiman Zakaria, and Dr. Itanwan Ita James – listed for honorary degrees in recognition of their contributions.

While celebrating these achievements, Prof. Ndaeyo acknowledged the institution’s challenges, including security threats, inadequate funding, and manpower shortages.

He appealed for government intervention to address these issues and ensure the university’s continued success.
