Varsity abolishes sale of textbooks, gender specification during exams

The Management of the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT), through the Committee of Provost and Deans, has banned sales of textbooks and other materials by lecturers.

They also abolished the specification and separation of gender on scripts during and after examination. In a memo signed by the registrar, Dr. Gloria Chindah, the decision was reached as part of measures to end all forms of gender discrimination.

The statement read in part: “At its meeting held on Friday, August 4, at the council chambers, the Committee of Provost and Deans (CPD) decided that all examinations must return to status quo, no more gender separation during examinations.

“All forms of gender discrimination are hereby abolished. There should not be any marking of female or male on answer booklets. Sale of books by course lecturers, through course representatives is no longer allowed.”
