Gborogbosi recognised for leadership in oil & gas governance

Sir (Dr.) Leesi Gabriel Gborogbosi, an oil and gas finance expert and governance strategist from Ogoni, Rivers State, has been acknowledged for his contributions to corporate leadership and community-focused development in Nigeria’s energy sector.

Dr. Gborogbosi, a former Project Finance Manager at Shell for key domestic gas initiatives, was recently nominated for the Made in Nigeria Excellence Award and listed among The Guardian’s 2024 “100 Visionary CEOs in Nigeria.” The recognitions reflect his role in shaping conversations around governance, transparency, and inclusive growth in the Niger Delta.

Elder Dum Tuuma, an oil sector professional, commended the recognition, stating:
“Dr. Leesi is not just a professional; he is a symbol of hope and direction for the Niger Delta. His thought leadership continues to shape policies and build bridges between communities and corporations. Recognising him is a recognition of excellence rooted in purpose.”

Dr. Gborogbosi, also a university lecturer and management consultant, has consistently advocated for the participation of Ogoni people not just as hosts, but as operators in the oil and gas industry. In his essay The Ogoni Development Imperative: Time to Take the Lead in Oil and Gas, he wrote:
“The time has come for Ogoni to take charge of its own development… Our voice will be heard when we speak from a place of ownership and accountability.”

His policy recommendations include the establishment of community-led joint ventures, regional innovation hubs, and financial institutions to promote local investment and entrepreneurship in oil-rich but underdeveloped communities.
Elder Tuuma added: “His vision is not theoretical. Leesi is already mentoring a new generation of leaders who understand that development must be driven from within. Shell being a global energy company must have found him as a valuable human asset.”

Dr. Gborogbosi’s proposals are gaining attention amid national discussions on energy transition, resource control, and community engagement. His approach focuses on dialogue, institutional development, and long-term planning.

While his recognitions are ongoing, his work continues to engage key stakeholders across sectors, positioning him as a consistent contributor to the evolving governance framework in the oil and gas industry.
