Segilola Resources Operating Limited (SROL), Nigeria’s first gold exploration and production company, has been recognised as one of the Top 10 Non-Oil Exporters by the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC).
The award ceremony, held to honour leading contributors to Nigeria’s non-oil sector, featured remarks from the Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment, Hon. Doris Uzoka-Anite, who lauded the recipients for fostering economic growth and diversification.
SROL’s recognition reflects its pivotal role in advancing Nigeria’s solid minerals sector and the country’s shift away from dependence on oil revenues. The Country Manager for SROL, Mr. Austin Menegbo, expressed pride in the company’s impact, particularly in job creation and economic development.
“This recognition is a testament to our unwavering commitment to supporting Nigeria’s economic diversification through robust export initiatives. At SROL, we are proud to contribute to national development, particularly in job creation. Impressively, 44% of our workforce is drawn from Osun State, with 28% from our host communities. This reflects our dedication to fostering sustainable growth and providing opportunities within the regions where we operate,” Menegbo said. “This acknowledgement encourages us to continue our journey towards sustainable development and community enrichment. We are excited about the future and remain committed to making even greater contributions to Nigeria’s export landscape.”
SROL operates the Segilola Gold Mine in Osun State, Nigeria’s first commercial gold mine, which began production in 2022. In its first year, the mine produced 98,006 ounces of gold, followed by 84,609 ounces in 2023. With a lifespan of 5.5 years, the Segilola Gold Mine remains a cornerstone of Nigeria’s mining sector.
Menegbo noted that the company is committed to sustainable development and community enrichment. “This recognition motivates us to do more as we continue to support the country’s export landscape and drive positive change.”
SROL’s efforts align with the government’s broader goals to diversify the economy and promote non-oil exports. The NEPC’s award underscores the company’s leadership in the mining industry and its role in setting benchmarks for other non-oil sectors in Nigeria.
