Umar Ajiya, whose retirement from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) as Chief Financial Officer has been controversial, has been replaced by the Board of Directors of the company.

Ajiya’s long tenure, alongside that of the current Group Chief Executive Officer of the company, Mele Kyari, has allegedly only been possible due to the transitioning of the defunct corporation into a limited liability company.

The organisation, in a statement on Wednesday, said the changes reflect the continued dedication to enhancing corporate governance, improving operational efficiency, and ensuring long-term success in Nigeria’s energy sector.

The former Executive Vice President, Downstream, Adedapo Segun, will now operate as CFO.

The statement revealed that Isiyaku Abdullahi has been named Executive Vice President (EVP), Downstream, while Udobong Ntia was appointed Executive Vice President (EVP), Upstream.

NNPC insisted that the appointments align with the commitment to building a unified and competent leadership team to drive operational excellence and support the organisation’s strategic objectives.

The statement lauded the roles of Ajiya and Oritsemeyiwa A. Eyesan, who was in charge of upstream operations.
