27-year-old man docked for allegedly stabbing motorcyclist to death with scissors

A 27-year-old, Shehu Sanni, who was charged with stabbing a commercial motorcyclist to death with a pair of scissors, was on Wednesday remanded at Ikoyi Prisons, Lagos.

Sanni, a commercial motorcyclist (okada rider), who resides at No. 22, Abeokuta St., Oko Baba, Ebute Meta, is facing a charge of murder at an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court.

Miss B.O. Ope-Agbe, the Magistrate, ordered that the accused should remain in prison pending advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions.(DPP)

Earlier, the prosecutor, Sgt. Maria Dauda, told the court that the offence was committed on July 8 at noon at Tappa-Abeokuta Street, Ebute Meta.

She alleged that the accused was questioned by the deceased, Ibukun Oguntana, a vigilante, why he was operating his motorcycle at night.

“An argument ensued between the duo and Sanni, who had a pair of scissors in his pocket, brought it out and stabbed the deceased on his chest and stomach.’’

Dauda noted that the offence contravened Section 221 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that section prescribes a life sentence for offenders.

The magistrate adjourned the case to Sept. 29.
