Agro Park to inaugurate processing zone in July
Agro Park Development Company, a value addition agro-allied company based in Lagos and Ogun states, is set to inaugurate an integrated agro-processing industrial park in July this year, the Chief Operating Officer of the company, Mr Tunde Oyelade, has disclosed.
The company said the first phase of the agro-processing park would include production plants for essential oils from lemon grass, tropical basil and turmeric.
Other processing plants that would commence operations at the first phase are the spices production units, poultry processing of 100,000 organically bred chickens daily and a foundry.
The second phase of the project, which is expected to commence later in the year, would include a curcuma extraction plant that would be the first of its kind in Africa.
About 80 to 100 investors are expected to engage in the park. Of these, 80 percent would be Nigerians and the rest foreigners, he said.
The purpose of the industrial park is to attract the private sector to set up food processing plants in bumper producing areas by adding value to agricultural products, linking farmers to processing plants and creating wealth for them, as well as reducing post-harvest losses and accelerating rural economic growth in Nigeria, Sola Olunowo, Managing Director, said.
