In a colourful celebration, the old students’ of Ansar-ud-Deen High School Old Students Association (AHOSA) were full of excitement and thanksgiving to Almighty Allah as the alumni body marked the Diamond Jubilee anniversary of the Alma mata.

The charitable spirit and dedication of the alumni to the development of the school and society earned the association laurels from the Lagos State government. The association provided infrastructure worth millions of naira to enhance learning in the school.

The events featured the launch of the school calendar, refurbishing of Science and Home Economics laboratories, awards presentation to the alumni association, outstanding teachers and students with the best result in 2021 BECE and WASSCE.

Speaking during the 2021 reunion party of the association, the President of AHOSA, Rafiu Williams said the Alma mata has come of age as the reunion coincides with the 60th anniversary of the founding of the school.

“By some classification at sixty our school is old. There is a burden to old age just as there are expectations. Virility and vigour are lost in old age. And succour is expected from the offspring.

“The investments of the visionary founders of our school and those of the staff that toiled to make it a reality has borne manifest fruits in you and I. The burden of the return of their investment in us is to give back and shoot the name of the school and alumni association beyond what our peers are doing.”

He urged the old students to intensify more in giving back to the school and society.

“I, therefore, charged the old students to in the coming years, beyond what we have so far done, reinvigorate our spirit of giving back to our old school that is now truly old and needs our support the most. We should not forget our brethren and the wider community outside our school too.”

Williams added that act of charity, which the old students prioritised on is imbued by the school.

“ The school made us who we are today with the glory of God. Beyond the academic, sporting and others that we learnt in school, we are also imbued with the spirit of giving and being our brother’s keeper.”

He lamented the rate at which cultism parades in schools, saying it is a major problem that has caught on across the country.

“ Cultism is not limited to Lagos alone, it exists in other parts of the world. I have lived in the UK for a long time and I know what it is like in terms of gun, knives in crimes. I strongly believe that most of these things start from the homes.”

The Chairman of the occasion, Otunba Fatai Abiodun Wahab, commended the president, planning committees under the chairmanship of Alhaji Rafiu Ebiti and the Old students who in one way or the order pioneered the activities and development of the association.

The Chairman Planning Committee, Alhaji Rafiu Ebiti, gave glory to Almighty Allah, saying the efforts of the founding fathers of the school have produced leaders in virtually every field.

“ School is not the structure, it is the coming together of the people as stakeholders and giving back to the Alma mata.”
