At Falomo, group restates call for release of Chibok girls

Commemorating the Chibok Girls

THE Women for Peace and Justice Group has called on the incoming Buhari’s administration to make the rescue of the Chibok girls a top priority especially if they are not rescued before the present administration elapses on May 29.

Leader of the group, Mrs. Aisha Oyebode, maintained that it is important that the girls are rescued so as to bring an end to the psychological trauma being faced by the kidnapped girls and their families.

She noted that it was one of the reasons for which the body organized the vigil held at the Falomo Roundabout, Lagos, to mark the one-year anniversary of the kidnap, as a call for action. “We are pleased with the support worldwide but we need to move beyond harshtag and social media activism to some more concrete demands.”

One of the parents of the kidnapped girls, Mr. Yali Bwata, father of 18 years old Comfort, said he was unhappy with the way the present administration has handled the Chibok abduction.

In agonizing words, he said his family had not been the same since their daughter were kidnapped and cannot wait to be reunited with her. He prayed that they are rescue alive and well.

Intermittently, as the different speakers at the forum mounted the podium, they re-echoed Bring Back Our Girls, now and alive, in a sing-song, with other members and participants singing and re-echoing the statement.

One of the volunteers at the programme, Ronke Adeola, said that she decided to be part of the campaign because she empathizes with the parents of the girls as a lady and as a person. She was however not happy that the turn out at the vigil was low.

For Mrs Abiola Akiode, a country where the safety of girls is giving a priority the manner with which the girls were kidnapped should not have been possible.

One of the participants prayed that the group would not have cause to gather in the next one year or again on the issue of the kidnapped girls.

Other speakers at the forum were; Ayo Obe, Habiba Balogun, Mr. Nurudeen Lemu, Fami Falana, Yemi Adamolekun, Mrs Abiola Akiode, Elder A.K Gadzama and Mrs. Maryam Uwais,
