Provost, College of Medicine, University of Lagos (CMUL), Prof. Folorunsho Lesi, has declared emergency in the dental faculty of the college, saying it needs urgent attention as it lacks modern training facilities in dentistry.

Speaking at the handing over ceremony of a newly built library by Chief Executive Officer of New Cross Petroleum, Dr. Bolaji Ogundare, which he donated to his alma mater, Lesi highlighted the dangers of teaching students with obsolete learning facilities, calling on alumni members to come to their aid.

Commending the donor for his gesture, which he described as apt considering the poor infrastructure in the college, Lesi said, “There is a spirit about generosity and giving back, if you have money without blessing people the money has no value. Library is central to whatever we do as an education institution; it is key, without a functioning and modern library, teaching and learning are defective. So we thank you for this brand new library.

“Dental education is quite expensive even more than other branches of medicine. In this college, we still have a long way to go in the area of infrastructure. We need newer materials, we don’t have them, and we need to teach our students with modern facilities in dentistry.

Responding, Ogundare said, “When I was approached on the infrastructural need of the college, I thought of something that could be accessible, something that can increase knowledge without cost to the learners… and I realised that having access to global information, will open up the world for all students.
