
Executive Director, Dansol High School, Mrs Omotara Olanitori, has disclosed that her school is committed to sharpening skills of her students to prepare them for future challenges.
She spoke at the Press club yearly leadership lecture of the school. The event themed: ‘The prevalent security challenge in secondary schools: The way out,’ is a yearly programme put in place to develop the writing prowess of students.
Olanitori said the school, yealy, launches a magazine, celebrating its students writing prowess.
“Our students conduct interviews. There was an interview with Lagos State Commissioner of Police and other school officials. We make them to write articles, poems and other educational materials just to celebrate their skills,” she said.
She reminded the students that they are not too young to write and sharpen their skills.
Olanitori urged parents to teach their children safety and security education, because of the growing challenges it is posing in the society, particularly in the school environment.
Chairman of the event, Mr. Adesina Adegoke, said parents should pay attention to activities their wards are involved in.
Adegoke, who is Head of Operations, Intercontinental Distillers Limited, said: “Insecurity is a global issue, especially in schools. Events in recent times have shown that it is becoming a menace in our schools.
“It is not enough to have security gadgets like Close Circuit Television (CCTV) mounted in schools, there should be somebody monitoring it. Children also should be made to take responsibility. Many of them make wrong choices in terms of siteS they visit on the Internet.
“We cannot live the training of children for teachers alone, family and homes must be involved.”
