Students willing to soar in their academic pursuits must be disciplined and possess strong determination to excel.
Principal of Eletu Odibo Junior High School, Mrs. Sarah Ajetumobi, who gave the tip while speaking at The Daniel Ogechi Akujobi Memorial (DOAM) Foundation Inter-school Debate in Lagos recently, stated that these two factors were critical qualities that any serious-minded student must possess.
According to her, “part of the determination is that you must wake up early, be punctual to the school, and must also do your assignments and projects on time. When you are determined you will succeed. It also means you must work hard. You must obey your guardians, teachers, and parents. You must also obey all instructions in the school.
She added, “You must dress very well so that when anybody sees you, the person will say I love these students because of their uniform. This is also part of determination. He that is diligent will not stand before vain men but kings and princes.” Guest lecturer at the event and child rights activist, Yomi Oloyede, noted that students must be conscious of their rights and ensure they were not violated.
Speaking on the topic: Child Rights Protection, “The rights that you have are not to be abused. But the fact that your teacher cannot beat you doesn’t mean when you do things that are wrong, you will not be punished.”
