Former Dean of Law, University of Lagos, Professor Chioma Kanu Agomo, has urged the National Industrial Court (NIC), to dispense justice over child labour and human trafficking matters with reference to national laws, international labour standards and best practices.

She said the NIC is a specialist court and have been empowered by law to dispense justice. She said: “This demonstrates the assertion that labour law has gone beyond the traditional concepts with narrow jurisdiction”.

Agomo stated this in a lecture themed: ‘The Menace of Human Trafficking, Child Labour and the Enlarged Jurisdiction of the National Industrial Court’ delivered at the 16th Chief G. O. Shodipe Memorial Lecture, held in the Lagos high Court premises in Igbosere.

She also stated further that NIC is effective to carry out the mandate to dispense justice over matters relating to child labour and human trafficking. She further warned against attempt to remove this jurisdiction over matters of child labour and human trafficking.
