In a bid to strengthen public health policies and enhance healthcare accessibility, Dr. Gideon Ugbeyo Noah, a renowned dentist and public health researcher, has called on the government to adopt data-driven strategies in addressing community health challenges. With extensive experience in clinical research, epidemiology, and healthcare policy, Dr. Noah emphasises the need for sustainable healthcare solutions that prioritise prevention and early intervention.
Speaking at a recent healthcare symposium in Lagos, Dr. Noah highlighted the alarming gaps in Nigeria’s healthcare system, particularly in rural communities. He stressed that the government must shift from reactive healthcare measures to proactive policies that focus on disease prevention, improved healthcare infrastructure, and strategic health education programs.
“A community-based approach is key to achieving lasting public health improvements,” Dr. Noah stated. “We need policies that not only address immediate healthcare needs but also establish long-term systems for disease prevention and control.”
Drawing from his experience as a clinician at National Hospital, Abuja and as a researcher, Dr. Noah noted that Nigeria’s public health policies should be informed by data analytics and evidence-based research. He pointed out that strategic investments in public health research would allow policymakers to design more effective interventions.
One of the major issues Dr. Noah addressed was the high prevalence of infectious diseases in Nigeria. He emphasised the need for improved immunisation programs, better disease surveillance, and stronger public awareness campaigns to combat preventable illnesses. According to him, adopting global best practices in public health research can nip these issues by their buds and significantly reduce the burden of infectious diseases.
Dr. Noah also urged the government to increase funding for community healthcare initiatives, particularly in underserved regions. He argued that empowering local healthcare professionals with the necessary resources and training would lead to better health outcomes.
“The government must recognise that investing in healthcare is investing in national development,” he said. “A healthier population translates to a more productive workforce and economic growth.”
Additionally, he proposed a stronger collaboration between the government, private sector, and academic institutions to foster innovation in public health. Through such partnerships, he believes Nigeria can leverage research findings to design targeted interventions that address specific health challenges.
Dr. Noah’s recommendations come at a critical time when Nigeria is striving to improve healthcare access and quality. He remains committed to driving change through his expertise in dentistry, public health, and clinical research. His advocacy continues to inspire young healthcare professionals to prioritise community health and policy-driven interventions.
With a career marked by excellence and dedication, Dr. Noah remains a key voice in the healthcare sector, pushing for reforms that will transform Nigeria’s public health landscape.
