Don-Bosco Science Academy wins Seplat Quiz Competition, gets N10m reward

Don Bosco Science Academy School, Edo State has, emerged winner of the 2023 Pearls Quiz competition sponsored by Seplat Energy Plc, operator of NPDC/Seplat Energy Joint Venture, winning the N10 million star prize and a trophy.

Our Savior Secondary School, Sapele, and Nollywood International School, Asaba, both from Delta State, emerged first and second runner up and were rewarded with N5 million and N3 million respectively.

The three students that represented John-Bosco got N100, 000 each, while the two others received N75, 000 and N50, 000 each.

The Seplat Energy Pearls Quiz final competition, targeted at students in both public and private secondary schools in Edo/ Delta States, was held in Asaba.

The Director, External Affairs and Sustainability, Seplat Energy, Dr. Chioma Afe, explained that the competition was targeted at boosting the quality of education in states where the company operates.

She noted that the company’s educational corporate social responsibility programme is aimed at rewarding academic excellence in its host states.

Afe listed some of the objectives of the competition to include promotion of reading culture and rewarding academic excellence in the host states.

“The programme also rewards academic excellence and build self-confidence; creates platform for networking and encourages inter-relationship among students; inculcates the spirit of teamwork in the youths; creates goodwill and huge affinity with host community, and creates positive mass visibility for Seplat brand,” she added.

Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, and his Delta State counterpart, Sheriff Oborevwori commended the company for the initiative, saying it has made a remarkable impression in the education sector in both states.

Obaseki, represented by Edwin Osawe, Director Policy standard and regulations, Ministry of Education, Edo State, said the state would key into the programme and continually partner with Seplat for what it stands for over the years.

Managing Director, Seplat West, Mr Ayodele Olatunde, said the initiative was to revive academic excellence in their host states.
Olatunde said over 1,300 schools and 56,000 students have been empowered since the inception of the programme.
