The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology in Oyo State, Hon. Olusegun Olayiwola, has commended the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) and Total Energies for their support in strengthening educational infrastructure, as a newly constructed storey building was officially commissioned at Ogbomosho Grammar School, Oke-Owode, on September 4, 2025.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony as the Special Guest of Honour, Hon. Olayiwola expressed delight at the project, describing it as a significant contribution to the state’s educational growth.
The building project, executed by NNPC/Total, is the latest in a series of partnerships between the government and private sector actors aimed at improving learning conditions in public schools.
“It gives me great joy and pleasure to be part of this achievement,” the commissioner said. “Philanthropists, corporate bodies, and non-governmental organisations have been playing significant roles in complementing government efforts toward achieving educational objectives.”
In his remarks, the Commissioner extended appreciation not only to NNPC/Total but also to notable alumni groups and foundations that have supported the school’s development over the years.
“You have all done wonderfully well. The importance of providing adequate facilities in schools cannot be overstated,” he added. “This new building will serve generations to come, enhancing both teaching and learning.”
Olayiwola used the occasion to highlight the educational strides made by the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde, reaffirming the state’s commitment to transforming the education sector.
“This government is determined to leave the education sector better than we met it,” he said. “Education is the tool we will use to lift our citizens out of poverty.”
Addressing the school’s management and staff, the Commissioner urged them to make good use of the new facility and ensure its proper maintenance.
“Let this building serve not just as a structure, but as a foundation for discipline, learning, and nation-building,” he said.
He reaffirmed the government’s call for continued collaboration from all education stakeholders to secure a better future for the younger generation.
