Experts to brainstorm on intellectual property protection in emerging markets

Legal and medical experts are set to brainstorm on the dynamic role of intellectual property protection in promoting innovation and economic development in emerging markets.

The event hosted by Anadach Group, which will take place on July 14 to 16, 2015 at the four Points Sheraton Hotel in Lagos is expected to bring in speakers from around the world.

The workshop will commence with a training course on July 14, an intensive certified training session tagged ‘IP 101 for innovators and entrepreneurs’, where attendees will learn about ‘’What to protect, How and where to protect it, and What your Protection covers/costs.’’ It will be followed by a two-day workshop on July 15 and 16, which will connect leaders from Government, Finance, ICT, Pharmaceuticals, Intellectual Property (IP), Law, Creative industries, Clean Energy amongst others, to advance a discussion on the role of intellectual property protection in promoting economic development.

Topics like ‘’Practical Examples of Intellectual Property supporting innovation and Economic growth’’ and issues of Poor Intellectual Property Protection’’ will be discussed. Several exciting and knowledgeable speakers have been lined up including Mr. Biyi Mabadeje, Former Honorable Commissioner of ICT, Lagos State, Prof. Olufemi Bamiro, Former Vice Chancellor, University of Ibadan, and Mr. Joel Kopp, First Secretary, Embassy of the United States.

As part of associated events, a report on Intellectual Property and innovation in Nigeria developed by the Business Action to Stop Counterfeiting and Piracy Group (BASCAP) of the international chamber of Commerce (ICC) will be launched by Mr. Babatunde Savage, Chairman International Chamber of Commerce (ICCN) and Chair of Guiness Nigeria.

The workshop also hopes to draw attention to the current Intellectual Property bill that is passing through the National Assembly.
