Fashola, Obanikoro, Ikuforiji laud Ambode’s victory

LAGOS State governor, Babatunde Fashola, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro and Speaker of the Lagos Assembly, Adeyemi Ikuforiji on Monday congratulated the governor-elect, Akinwunmi Ambode, on his victory at the polls.

Fashola, Obanikoro and Ikuforiji, in their congratulatory messages expressed optimism that his tenure would better the lot of Lagosians; especially working in sync with the All Progressives Congress (APC) led Federal Government.

Fashola thanked residents of the state for keeping faith with the model of development that gives people the dignity to compete and be the best that they can be.

The governor noted that the people had chosen service; competition and choice over very banal patronage that often come a few weeks to an election.

He expressed joy that all the hard work of his government in the last eight years had been vindicated and with the mandate of Ambode, the people of Lagos have connected with the choice and model of governance and have chosen the accelerated development, where one doesn’t need to know anybody before he gets an opportunity.

Obanikoro congratulated the governor-elect via Twitter handle @MObanikoro saying: “I congratulate Akinwunmi Ambode on his election into the office of Governor of Lagos State.

“I urge Lagosians to support the new Governor-Elect, Akinwunmi Ambode as he directs the affairs of our state in the years ahead.”

Obanikoro also aspired to the governorship of the state but was defeated by Jimi Agbaje at the PDP primaries in December 2014.

Ikuforiji, on his part, was optimistic that Lagosians would not regret voting massively for the governor-elect because his election will only take our dear state to the next level of sustainable socio-economic and human development.

According to the Speaker, the state had in the last 16 years been known for what he described as “superb professionalism,” credited to the foundation laid by the National leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the great leadership of the current governor, Fashola.

“I can, therefore, assure all the good people of Lagos State that the future of our dear State under Mr. Akin Ambode, our governor-elect, will witness greater level of development in all areas now that it is our great party, APC that will be forming the in-coming Federal Government of Nigeria. And our State and all citizens of Lagos State can be rest assured that our Lagos will also witness greater degree of peace and tranquility henceforth.”

He continued: “No longer shall Lagos State be treated with so much needless hatred by the FG since it is our party that will now be on the driver’s seat in Abuja.  No longer shall our State be denied her rights and privileges under Akinwunmi Ambode as witnessed under Asiwaju Tinubu and Gov. Fashola while the reign of the PDP lasted in Abuja.

“No longer too shall agencies of the federal government be deployed to agitate the peace of Lagos and Lagosians through the deployment of thugs to disrupt the free flow of traffic on roads regarded by them as belonging to the FG in Lagos State. And no longer shall Lagos be denied all the refunds of the several billions of our taxpayers’ money here that is spent on damaged FG roads.
