In an effort to end malnutrition in Africa, BNSL Limited has re-launched its micronutrient powder, ENRICH, which is focused predominantly on young children.

The firm explained that the re-launch is to bring the world’s attention to the plight of hundreds of millions of malnourished children all over the world, most especially, within Africa.

BNSL Managing Director, Chioma Odimegwu, at the event at the weekend in Ogun State, said Nigeria ranks number one in Africa as the place with the most malnourished children with 10 million malnourished.

She noted that the menace is usually caused by poverty, poor child feeding practices, lack of proper sanitation, lack of clean water, inadequate maternal nutrition and uninformed practices among others.

Her words: “The magnitude of the problem must be met with a response that reflects the scale and gravity of the situation. In this regard, BNSL Limited looks forward to delivering fortification as an efficient solution to a national challenge, and to drive a meaningful impact.”

Odimegwu added that ENRICH is a micronutrient powder, which is to be sprinkled and mixed with ready-to-eat food.

“It is a blend of essential vitamins and minerals, with specially encapsulated iron for easier digestion. ENRICH provides a convenient formulation for supplementing any low nutrient food. Majorly, it is targeted to meet the daily recommended nutrient intake of children above six months of age,” she said.

BNSL Head, Quality Assurance and Control, Adanna Iloegbunam, noted that ENRICH is formulated according to World Health Organisation (WHO) standard.

Iloegbunam stressed that the product is targeted to meet the required daily intake for key essential vitamins and minerals needed for optimal development, improve the immune system, improve growth, appetite and other functions.

Vice President of All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Dr. Shakin Agbayewa, who represented the President of AFAN, Otunba Femi Oke, and Director Tree Crops and Rural Development Services, Ministry of Agriculture, Ogun State, Mr. James Oyesola, who represented Commissioner of Agriculture, Ogun State, Dr. Adeola Odedina, gave a positive account of BNSL products as a brand with a good reputation.
