Qualifiers for the first, second and third semi-finals of the on-going Cowbellpedia Secondary Schools Mathematics Television Quiz competition are beginning to emerge.

But not without a mental combat as speed, accuracy and composure characterised last weekend’s challenge, in which Oluwafunmbi Fakorede of Bibo Oluwa Academy, Ilesha, Osun State and Dennis Balogun of Greater Tomorrow International College, Ondo State, secured the final tickets for their respective schools in the junior category.

Securing the final tickets for the duo was not an easy fight, as they tied with Oluwafunke Alabi of Scholars Universal Secondary School, Ota, Ogun State, on 100 points. In the second round, Balogun was the first to break the tie. However, the second tiebreaker became heartbreak for Alabi who could not match Fakorede as he joined Balogun on the final train.

In the senior category, Blessing Udo of The Ambassador College, Ota, Ogun State and Hasanah Adeyanju of Ota Total Academy, Ogun State subdued Oluwaseun Ahmed of Scholars Universal Secondary School, Ota, Ogun State; Kenechukwu Egbo of Marist Brothers Juniorate, Uturu, Abia State; Uwakmfon Utuk of Pegasus High School, Eket, Akwa Ibom State; and Yusuf Jimoh of Federal Government College, Ilorin, Kwara State, to secure their finalists tickets.

With the conclusion of this first phase of the semi-finals contest, Balogun and Fakorede have secured finalists tickets in the junior category; while Udo and Adeyanju got theirs in the senior category. The four, along with eight more contestants that would emerge in the second and third phase of the semi-finals stage will proceed to the finals.
