Kano flags-off campaign as 3 million children get poliomyelitis immunisation

About 3.6 million children are expected to be vaccinated against poliomyelitis in the 2024 OBR4 campaign flagged off by the Kano State, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
The Commissioner for Health in Kano and the Co-Chair State Taskforce Committee on Immunization, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, disclosed the figure at the weekend ahead of the state wide campaign.
Labaran hinted that government has embarked on ministry public and stakeholders sensitisation on the significance of the vaccine to the health population of children in the state.
The commissioner said it is part of the tradition whenever “there is going to be a round of campaign like this, stakeholders get together to map-out strategies for the successful conduct of the activity and thereafter convey the message to the public to bring out their children to access the services”.
He appealed to people to make good use of the opportunity to ensure that their eligible children are vaccinated in order to achieve the target objective of eradicating polio from the state by extension from the country.
Labaran stated that in an effort to fine-tune the exercise, a presentation of an awards is being introduced to reward best four local government councils with highest number of vaccinated children.
He stated that the award is aimed at encouraging stakeholders to keep up with the standard and motivate them on the hard work while sustaining the campaign strategy.
The commissioner lauded Yusuf for supporting health services since coming on board, appreciating his compassion and high-mindedness to the care of the people of the state at all levels.
He also commended the Emir of Kano, Dr. Muhammad Sanusi II for his support to eradicate polio in the state by directing the involvement of the district heads in activities that have direct bearing with the health of the people in their localities.
Labaran congratulate the newly elected local government chairmen and enjoined them to accord polio eradication and other health activities with topmost priorities.
