Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Lagos Sector Command read the riot act to motorists and the general public to desist from taking laws into their hands.

This is coming after the agency said its Road Marshals are being assaulted while carrying out their lawful duty in the state.

Lagos Sector Commander, Hyginus Omeje gave the warning while reacting to the assault of some Marshals around Jibowu and Yaba axis on Sunday when they arrested the driver of a Toyota Camry with registration number MU 780 KJA.

According to a statement signed by Ag. Public Education Officer Deputy Route Commander Olabisi Sonusi, the driver who had no driver’s license on him was to have his vehicle impounded when he veered off the route to his street where he mobilized area boys to beat up the Marshals with the officers sustaining various degrees of injuries.

Omeje refuted claims being made in some media (not The Guardian) that the Marshals caused a crash while trying to stop the vehicle. He maintained that there was in fact, no crash recorded during and after the arrest adding that the team had successfully arrested the man and was taking him to FRSC office in Yaba before he zoomed off to his area and mobilized miscreants against the marshals. He noted that the offender capitalized on the ensured confusion to run away with his vehicle.

While noting that it is a criminal offence to assault a Marshal or an Officer in the course of his duty, Omeje stated that the Command has not only resolved to bring this particular culprit to book, but has equally resolved to bring the full weight of the law against any traffic offender who dares to assault Marshals in future.

The agency enjoined motorists to always obey traffic rules and regulation to avoid arrest and prosecution.

The Sector Commander noted that the matter has being reported to the police and the Command has declared the vehicle wanted.
