FUTO expels 10 students, rusticates 103 over exam malpractice
The management of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, (FUTO), has expelled 10 students and rusticated 103 others over examination malpractices.
From the bulletin of the university tagged “FUTO News,” The Guardian gathered that four students of the department of Biology were affected, which is the highest of all the departments. While two students from biotechnology were affected, biochemistry had one, maritime management technology, one, and information management technology, one.
“At its 144th meeting, the Senate considered the report on the cases of the students accused of examination misconduct, during the 2016/2017 rain semester examinations and found them liable for being in possession of cell phones, which contained answers relevant to the examination,” the bulletin read in part.
Also, on the rustication of 103 students, it said, “Following Senate consideration at the same meeting, of a report on examination misconduct, the affected students were found liable of impersonation and copying from one another.”
Meanwhile, the sanctions also affected some staff (names withheld) whose appointments were either terminated, or got dismissed or suspended from duty.
