FUTO Rates 12th, Hopes To Complete Science Park In June
THE Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), Imo State, Prof. Chigozie Cyril Asiabaka, has attributed the success his administration recorded with the recent National Universities Commission (NUC) ranking to the excellent cooperation extended to him by his management, staff, students and stakeholders.
NUC in its recent rating of universities across the country ranked FUTO 12th. The VC disclosed that the rating has moved the school from 48th position it was when he came in 2011 to 12th position out of the over 100 universities assessed in the country.
Asiabaka stressed that under his watch, the institution used the mantra of ‘Quest for Excellence’, in building strong FUTO and not strong individuals.
He said infrastructural facilities his regime has put in place would help students, lecturers and workers to carry out the three-prong agenda of the university, which are teaching, research and community service.
Asiabaka noted that the gigantic Science and Research Park for the assemblage of scientists and technologists in manufacturing of technological products would hopefully be completed before he leaves office in June this year.
Commending the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) for granting N1billion to the institution for the project, he said the park is one of the biggest achievements being recorded in his time.
