In a powerful gathering of influential women across diverse sectors, the International Women’s Day (IWD) 2026 event, themed “Power of Collaboration,” spotlighted the critical role of partnerships in driving sustainable growth and empowerment.

Held in Lekki Phase 1, Lagos, the event convened thought leaders, entrepreneurs, media personalities, and professionals who shared valuable insights on how collaboration remains an essential tool for navigating challenges and scaling impact in today’s dynamic world.

From the outset, the atmosphere reflected purpose and unity, as attendees engaged in meaningful conversations centered on leadership, resilience, and collective advancement.

Speakers delivered compelling perspectives, emphasizing that success in today’s landscape is no longer achieved in isolation but through strategic alliances, mentorship, and shared opportunities.

Notable speakers at the event included Dr. Yeye Falashade Shona, Amb. Dr. Kirti Sudhanshu, Dr. Carolyna Hutchings, Anita Natacha (Symply Tacha), Abiola Adelana, Jennifer Ebitimi Yeri, Simi Drey, Delphine Okoronkwo, Seyi Amao, Esohe Igbinoba, and Adaeze Chioma Ahubaarezeama.

The convener, Dr. Princess Oghene, underscored the importance of intentional collaboration, noting that empowering women through shared platforms and resources can significantly accelerate progress across industries.

Participants also highlighted mentorship and knowledge-sharing as essential pillars for long-term growth, particularly for young women seeking to establish themselves in competitive fields.

Beyond the discussions, the event served as a valuable networking platform, enabling attendees to build meaningful connections and explore collaborative ventures.

Several attendees shared testimonies illustrating the power of collaboration. One participant recounted how she had searched unsuccessfully for a key contact for over five years. However, after connecting with Dr. Princess Oghene, convener of the GAH Elite Club, she was able to obtain the contact within 15 minutes—demonstrating the transformative impact of the right network.

Voices on Collaboration from IWD 2026
During an interaction at the event, a participant, Victoria, shared her perspective on the growing importance of collaboration among women.

Responding to a question from Guardian Representative Priscilla on women working together, she said:

“Women collaborating is truly powerful. In the past, women did not have the same level of influence and opportunities they have today, but that is changing rapidly.

If you look at global developments—especially in areas like space exploration—it gives a strong sense of hope that women are achieving greater milestones than ever before.

These are not just symbolic wins; they represent real progress and serve as inspiration for younger generations.

No one succeeds alone. Regardless of the mission or goal, collaboration is essential. It is through working together, sharing ideas, and supporting one another that meaningful success is achieved.

Women bring a unique combination of creativity, organization, ambition, and empathy. When these strengths are combined, the impact is significant and far-reaching.

So, women standing together and collaborating is not just important—it is necessary for progress.”

Further speaking on the challenges women face in embracing collaboration, she added:

“It can sometimes be difficult for women to come together and truly collaborate. However, I have learned that when you cannot do something on your own, it is okay to ask for help. We are human, after all.”

Sharing a personal experience, Victoria reflected:

“While I may not have a specific professional example, the strongest collaboration I have experienced is with my mother. She has been a major influence in my life—a guide and a mirror.

She taught me how to navigate life, how to build, how to stand strong, and how to create a future. That relationship showed me that collaboration can begin from very close spaces, even within the family.”

Offering advice to young women and girls, she said:

“Do not be afraid. If you want to achieve something, go for it. There will always be challenges, but they should not stop you from pursuing your dreams.

Achieving your goals brings fulfillment and inspires you to grow and help others succeed. My advice is to be bold, keep pushing, and never be afraid to take that step.”

Overall, the IWD 2026 event stood out as more than just a celebration; it was a strategic and impactful gathering that reinforced the value of collaboration as a driving force for growth, empowerment, and societal transformation.
