WIFE of the Lagos State governor, Mrs. Bolanle Ambode, has called on children and youths in the country to embrace good moral virtues and desist from vices that are capable of inhibiting their potentials or destroy their future.

She made the call at the weekend during a ‘Soup Kitchen’ programme organised by Heritage Homes Orphanage for less privileged children and teenagers at the Campos Mini Stadium, Lagos.

Represented by Mrs. Bolanle Adejuwon Whenu at the event, the First Lady urged children and youths in the country to be serious with their studies or vocations and shun sexual immorality. She advised them to be creative in the use of their free time in order to become responsible citizens.

She specifically noted that “the female child has to be more particularly careful as the resultant effects of engaging in sex at a young age leads to shame, rejection and even abortion, which is an illegal act.
“Every child has a purpose. Children should remember that they were created with a purpose and the purpose will manifest in due time. But they should desist from abusing their opportunities.”

Head of Publicity, Heritage Homes Orphanage, Mrs. Chinyere Salusi, said the ‘Soup Kitchen’ programme was organised “to reach out to the less privileged in society to extend the love of Christ to them.

“This gathering is also about sensitising children, catching them young, getting them right at this age in other to help them become outstanding members of the society. We have used what they like such as music, food and gifts, among others, to pass across the message that premarital sex, which leads to unwanted pregnancies, abortion and abandoned children, should be avoided. And if the mistake should occur, they should call an orphanage; don’t abort, every child deserves a chance to live,” she added.

Salusi also urged government to make the process of child adoption in Nigeria less stressful and faster, noting that the tedious bureaucratic process was not encouraging.
