President-Elect, General Muhammadu Buhari and National leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Tuesday led the APC mobilisation rally in Lagos, canvassing votes for APC candidates in the Saturday’s election.

BuhariPresident-Elect, General Muhammadu Buhari and National leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Tuesday led the APC mobilisation rally in Lagos, canvassing votes for APC candidates in the Saturday’s election.

With APC now elected for the centre, they said it was time for Lagos to reap the fruit of her labour in the last 16 years.

Speaking at the rally held at Orile, Lagos, Buhari said Lagos was too important for APC to lose, as he charged all registered voters in Lagos to turnout en masse and vote Akinwunmi Ambode, the APC guber candidate in Lagos.

Buhari said: “I want to thank and congratulate you for voting me. While going round to campaign, he (Fashola) told me how much Lagos State government has been spending to maintain the federal infrastructure left here and I said definitely, if we win the election and I become the president, I will give Lagos a priority.

“I am here mainly to thank you for voting me, our senators and our house of representatives members and to tell you to do all you can to vote APC in the governorship and house of assembly election.

You must ensure you vote APC from top to bottom.   “Lagos is too important for APC to lose. I am giving you the assignment of voting APC. You cannot joke with APC investment; your own investment. Don’t attempt to be at the wrong side of the centre, we are now the centre,” Buhari said.

The president-elect assured every tribe in Lagos of adequate security, adding that the state remains home to all.   “I have a lot of respect for Fashola for his hard work, his commitment to Lagos State and the country.

There is no doubting the fact that Lagos is a mini Nigeria, we are all here and I assure you that if you vote APC, it will benefit you individually and collectively.

It is our interest to vote APC. So, when you go back, tell your friends, tell your  neighbours, your relatives, even the opposition party to vote APC,” he said.   Addressing the controversy generated by comments credited to the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu at the rally, Tinubu disassociated political authority from that of the monarchy.

He, however, blamed some individuals who had taken political matters to monarchs for hearing, just to cause confusion.   He reiterated that the issue of discrimination against any tribe does not arise in Lagos, saying all Lagosians enjoy benefits of the APC-led  state government in the last sixteen years.

Tinubu said: “We have been paying school fees and WAEC fees of all students from different tribes including the Ibos in Lagos without recourse to where they come from.

I want to thank and congratulate you for voting me. While going round to campaign, he (Fashola) told me how much Lagos State government has been spending to maintain the federal infrastructure left here and I said definitely, if we win the election and I become the president, I will give Lagos a priority.

Have you been collecting the school fees in the Oba of Lagos Palace?”   He added that the Ibos had won the Lagos State Government Spelling Bee Competitions three consecutive times, they were given scholarships to study in the best tertiary institutions in the world and offered employments as executive officers in blue chip companies.

For instance, he cited Ebuka from Anambra State, who won the spelling bee competition. “We didn’t do Iwu against him, to over-turn the vote. We did not discriminate against him, he acted as One Day Governor.

So, Ibos cannot say they have not govern Lagos because Ebuka and others acted as governor here. We sent Ebuka to Switzerland for training, to computer school, to Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), got his degree and went back for his Masters on our scholarship.

Now Ebuka works for Oando Nigeria Plc  as an executive. Ebuka is in Canada as we speak.”    “We did not just pick Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode as our governorship candidate. He has the brain, character , integrity and ability to do a good job.

When the Federal Government seized our money in Abuja we would have retrenched workers and sack some workers but Ambode said, ‘Oga, there is way out of the problem and that is the man we are presenting for continuity,” Tinubu said.

With General Buhari  on the rally ground were APC national chairman Chief John Oyegun, a former Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Abdurrahman Dambazau (rtd) , Senator Chris Ngige, Chief Audu Ogbeh, Governor Rotimi Amaechi of  Rivers , Lagos State Governor Mr. Babatunde Fashola, among others.
