Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has said that governance is about raising the standard of living of the citizens, which is what his government is committed to.

Sanwo-Olu stated this at the 2022 Community Day celebration with the theme, “Strengthening community engagement for inclusive governance”. The community day celebration was organised by the Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs.

The governor not only thanked the Community Development Associations (CDAs) and Community Development Councils (CDCs) for supporting his administration, but also endorsed him for second term in office.

Sanwo-Olu said that the CDAs and CDCs have been worthy partners in the community since 2019 he came into office, thanking them for the numerous advice.

The governor further said that his administration has delivered dividends of democracy to all the nooks and crannies of the state.

“We cannot underplay the role of CDA and CDC to development in the communities. We want to thank you and leadership of the community advisory council.”

Sanwo-Olu stated that the endorsement by the CDAs and CDCs is an attestation of a partnership that works.  “And we would not take it for granted, reason we would not embarrass you. We would continue with the strategic developmental growth in our state. We are determined to deliver on many more developmental projects.”

Special Adviser to the Governor on Local Government and Community Affairs, Bolaji Roberts, said CDAs and CDCs had been assisting the government on vital issues in the areas of security and governance, while also promoting peaceful co-existence and harmonious relationships amongst the people within their domains.

This ceremony, he said, further demonstrated the Sanwo-Olu administration’s commitment to ensuring dividend of democracy is extended to all the nooks and crannies of Lagos through Community Development Associations, which, he said, play pivotal roles in the development of the state.

Amusat noted that the state government had been supportive of active communities collaborating with the state in promoting sustainable development in their areas. He commended the State Government for programmes targeted at improving lives in communities.

The CDAC chairman also praised Sanwo-Olu for approving annual subventions to support the groups’ activities. He added that the Governor approved leadership training for members and supported the associations’ congresses.

Amusat implored the CDA and CDC members to get their voter cards and vote for the Governor.

Chief Rotimi Williams’ CDA in Ifako Ijaiye Local Council was named the Most Outstanding CDA in Lagos, winning a brand new 18-seater bus to support its activities.

Other winners were Hilltop CDA in Agbado Oke-Odo LCDA (first runner-up), and Gateway Zone CDA in Ikosi Isheri LCDA (second runner-up). Ilupeju Community III CDA won the Best Rural Community.
