Following last month’s protest in Alausa, Lagos, by the affected people, the State House of Assembly has set up a four-man committee to investigate the alleged wrongful demolition of Atinporomeh, Araromi Ale Extension and Mowo phase 2 Communities in Badagry.

The Chairman of the displaced residents, Chief Charles Adu, told The Guardian that the committee was well constituted as it also involved other key government functionaries as well as some of the displaced residents.

“We have been requested to bring some documents, which we have done and we are happy that we will surely get justice. Our prayer is that everything will be done within the shortest possible time, because the affected people are really going through serious hardship. You can imagine somebody who was a landlord before now a displaced person?” Adu said.

He said over 1,500 houses located on 65 hectares of land were destroyed during the unexpected demolition exercise of December 2013 in which a baby and a woman were killed, while several other residents arrested for no justifiable reason. Adu appealed to the government to unravel the reasons behind the encroachment, which rendered them homeless.
