Ikeja Rotary Club renovates Opebi Primary School with N10 million

Rotarian Tosin Kadiri, as he became the President of Ikeja Rotary Club for the service year, 2015-2016 has pledged to put smiles on 500 faces of the pupils of Opebi Primary School, Ikeja by spending not less than N10 million to renovate a block of six classrooms that had been in deplorable condition.

According to Kadiri, some pupils sit on the floor because of lack of seats and whenever it rains, water penetrates through the leaking roof and floods the entire classrooms.

He disclosed his plans at his installation ceremony as the 49th President of the club and the induction of 2015/2016 Board of Directors, which took place at Sheraton Hotels & Towers, Ikeja, Lagos, recently.

Kadiri also gave assurance that toilets, sickbay, chairs for pupils and teachers would be provided as part of the star projects.
“I feel highly honoured to serve as the president of a prestigious club like Rotary Club of Ikeja and to be involved in creating a better future and a generation that would uplift the legacy we are trying to establish in this Rotary year and in our generation,” he said.

He enumerated the already executed projects to include free eye screening test in Opebi Junior High School with 461 beneficiaries out of which 91 were discovered to be chronic, provision of sewing machines, hair driers and cooking gasses for four communities namely, Agidingbi, Alausa, Ijede and Ikorodu.

He declared: “I have lined up about fifteen projects for my Rotary year out of which I have executed three. I hope to accomplish the execution of other projects which include the provision of water, education, giving of micro credit to traders, youth development and other projects that would impact on the less privileged. The various projects would consume not less than N15 million. This would be in addition to my star project.”

The immediate past President of the club, Lanre Fasheun, enumerated his achievements during his tenure to include donations of equipment and tools to artisans in Olusosun, Ikeja, Ojota and Ijede Community in Ikorodu, Nigerian Airforce Wives Association Vocational Training School at Airforce Base in Ikeja. “We also donated sick bay to Police Children School, GRA, Ikeja, celebrated Yuletide season with Ikeja General Hospital patients and donated hospital equipment.

We have been doing this for the past 42 years. We sent ten candidates to Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) among others. We inducted five new members, who became Paul Harris fellows with contribution of $5.000 to Rotary Foundation.” Fasheun said.
The Guest speaker at the occasion, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Tricontinental Group, Prof. Toyin Ashiru, gave a talk on oil subsidy and the way forward.
