FG targets civil service renewal with mentorship digital reform drive

Federal Civil Service Commission

The Federal Government is set to spotlight mentorship, digital transformation, and public sector excellence as the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF) rolls out activities for the 2026 Civil Service Week.

The event, marking this year’s African Public Service Day celebration, comes amid ongoing efforts to modernise the nation’s bureaucracy and strengthen institutional capacity for improved service delivery.

Central to the programme is the launch of a nationwide conversation on mentoring in the public service through the Mentoring Marketplace, scheduled for June 25. The initiative follows the recent approval of the Federal Public Service Policy and Guidelines on Mentoring by the Federal Executive Council

and is expected to drive leadership development, succession planning, and knowledge transfer across government institutions.

In a move that underscores the government’s digitalisation agenda, the Civil Service will also unveil an enhanced IPPIS-HR Employee Self-Service Application, featuring upgraded tools designed to streamline personnel management, improve workplace efficiency, and deliver faster services across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

The reform-focused day will climax with the 2026 Rewards and Recognition Awards Ceremony, where exceptional civil servants will be honoured for innovation, professionalism, commitment to duty, and contributions to ongoing public service reforms.

All activities on June 25 will hold at the Rotunda Hall of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja.

The celebration will extend beyond policy and reform discussions, with a Special Juma’at Prayer scheduled for June 26 at the National Mosque and a Thanksgiving Service on June 28, reflecting the tradition of seeking divine guidance for the nation’s public institutions.

The Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation said the week-long activities are intended not only to celebrate public servants but also to reinforce the Civil Service’s role as a critical driver of national development, institutional continuity, and effective governance.
