Rotary District 9110 marks World Polio Day

LED by the District Governor, Rotary International, District 9110, comprising Lagos and Ogun States, Otunba Bola Onabadejo, 2015 World Polio Day was commemorated in Lagos with 7.3 kilometers walk from Rotary District Office, Ladoke Akintola to Ndubuisi Park, Alausa.

Onabadejo premised the walk on creating awareness for people to know that the fight against polio was not yet ended until the next 24 months when in the absence of a recurrence, Nigeria would be declared polio free by the World Health Organisation (WHO).
“We have observed one year without polio in Nigeria and we are happy. However, we must continue to create awareness in all areas of advocacy and immunizing our children. Two days ago, we did what we called the “market push” by visiting markets within the

District to sensitize the people of the importance of continuing to immunize the children for the next two years.
“We are also calling on the Federal government and our supporters at the national level, State level as well as local government level not to be tired of their collaboration with the Rotary International until Nigeria is confidently declared polio free in the next two years by WHO.

Advocacy is going on at the top level in the Northern part of Nigeria through the National Polio Plus-Committee Chairman, the past District Governor, Dr. Tunji Funsho said.
Onabadejo also called on parents not to be wary of making their children available for immunization.
