Group harps on good deeds during Ramadan
Muslims have been told to intensify their observance of good deeds so as to be forgiven during the Holy month of Ramadan, as it brings the faithful closer to Allah.
Speaking during the 10th Misbaudeen Islamic Centre’s pre-Ramadan lecture, the Chief Host and Managing
Director, Silver Feeds Nigeria Limited, Alhaji Musbaudeen Bolarinwa, said: “It is very important that we reminded ourselves about the essence of the holy month of Ramadan and current issues around the world as human beings are forgetful in nature.”
He also urged Muslims to do regular health checks to be in the best state for the fasting month. “I also advise people to form the habit of donating blood voluntarily in order to help those in need of blood.
“That’s part of the reason we always invite the Lagos State Blood Transfusion Service to this programme every year to check people’s vital statistics and donate blood voluntarily.”
Bolarinwa urged Muslims to take advantage of the lecture to prepare them spiritually, emotionally, physically and healthily.
He said the theme had been carefully chosen in view of the developments and challenges in our society.
According to him, the Pre-Ramadan lecture is to remind and guide Muslims on the significance of the holy month.
“The public lecture is meant to prepare Muslims towards having a perfect and acceptable fasting experience during the glorious month in line with the dictates of the Qur’an and Sunnah of our noble Prophet Mahammed (PBUH).”
Speaking on the health benefits of Ramadan, Chairman, Lagos Pilgrims Welfare Board and Mufassir, Lagos Central Mosque, Alhaji Mofesaiye, reminded everybody present that fasting reduces blood sugar, help with inflammation, enhances heart health as neurons won’t degenerate easily, hormone secretion will be controlled, delays aging process apart from stopping people from engaging in sins.
A don at the Lagos State University, Dr. Mustapha Bello, while delivering a lecture on ‘Averting Catastrophic Wars: Islamic Precepts for Attainment of National and Global Peace’, called on Muslims to keep doing good, seeking for beneficial knowledge, being just and avoiding evils.
“Because Muslims are no longer doing all these, they are now powerless. Hence, we need to do the needful.”
According to him, righteous people need to participate in politics while we say no to free market economy.
Immediate past chairperson, Women Journalists, Lagos Chapter, Hajia Sekinah Temitope Lawal, talking on the positive roles of Sheikh AbdulHafeez Abou, Baba Adinni of Lagos, to the development of Islam in Lagos and Nigeria in general’, eulogised the highly respected and distinguished Islamic scholar from a noble lineage of Imams and religious devotees, saying that he has been a great asset to Muslims in Lagos and the world at large.
“His past and present activities are sufficient testimonies in this regard in his almost 100 years of his sojourn on earth.”
Lawal urged youths to emulate Sheikh Abou in actions and words, because in education, baba groomed some of the best minds and captains of industries of our beloved country.
“In religion and all human endeavours, he is a role model that coming generations should emulate. Sheikh Abou served the nobility. His contributions towards school establishment were exemplary.
She called on youths to emulate Sheikh Abou in knowledgeable and correct intellectual disposition while drinking from his oceans of knowledge and wisdom.
According to her, other traits youths should emulate from Sheikh Abou include, embodiment of peace, being free from scandals and ill-reports because he is a man of integrity, honour; honesty, humility, modesty and very unassuming.
“He is very patient and disciplined with a lot of self-restraint. He is ever content with the provisions of his Lord and ever grateful to Him. He lives a very simple and decent life. He is a polished gentleman with rich international experience and contacts.
“There are so many positive impacts our young generation and grown-ups too can imbibe from our Baba. These include moral virtues, religious qualities and quest for knowledge.”
While delivering his lecture, Prof. Ibrahim Olatunde Uthman condemned the various forms of ritual killing, war and uprising going on in the world including, Boko Haram debacle.
He called for love, peace and harmony in various communities of the world.
Bello stated that the world is ready for Islam if only Muslims are ready to lead and do what is right, the world will follow us.
“Muslims once ruled the world when they were just and feared Allah. Muslim nations must unite and support one another. If we are not united, we cannot lead the world. should safeguard the interest of the weak in the society while Islamic organisations should stop internal wranglings,” he concluded.

Lawal Pedro (SAN), Chief Imam of Badagry, Imam AbdulHakeem Akewusola, Dr. Saheed Timehin, Chief Imam, Lagos Police College, DSP Muhammad Raji Muhammad Jamiu, Alhaji Taofeek Elebute and Alhaji AbdulAzeez AbdulLateef Latson, among others.
