Lagos Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, on Friday, donated an Information Communication Technology (ICT) centre to his alma mater, Odo Abore Primary School, Iyalla Street, off Oliyide Street, Mushin, as part of activities marking his 61st birthday.
Hamzat had during a ceremony to mark the 80th Anniversary of the school, promised to donate an ICT centre because of the important role ICT had played in his development and career.
Speaking at the donation ceremony, the deputy governor said the school has been producing good students. “I left the school 50 years ago. We are making progress as a people. It is untrue that our education is going down. It is quite unfortunate that we don’t harness the opportunities.”
He urged parents to encourage their children acquire digital skill and participate in digital skills development. He noted that President Bola Tinubu is repairing the economy and it is a period of surgery and the president is doing a lot of good job. He added that Tinubu is connecting all the states by road.
“Our children can only compete with the world through ICT. Nigerians are brilliant and do excel in everything they are into. The language of today is Artificial Intelligence (AI) and it is taken over everything we have in the society. Whatever you study in the university, you must still learn technology.” He also promised to build another ICT centre in Odi-Olowo LCDA.
A member of the House of Representative, Toyin Fayinka, commended Hamzat for giving back to the society unlike rolling out drums to celebrate birthday that many often do.
A political leader in Mushin, Ganiyu Solomon, said it is a privilege Mushin is having an ICT centre at Odo Abore Primary School. “Hamzat said whatever he does must be from home. He has done this and we appreciate it.”
Solomon urged the pupils and the teachers to make good use of the ICT centre. He assured the Deputy Governor of ensuring the centre is used for the purpose of training the pupils in technological skills.
