11 inmates undergo hernia surgeries at Kuje prison

In furtherance of its commitment to the health, welfare, and human dignity of persons in custody, the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has successfully carried out hernia surgeries on 11 inmates at the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Kuje, Abuja.

The procedures, which took place recently, were carried out by a team of medical personnel from the correctional service.

According to a statement made available to The Guardian by the Controller of Corrections, FCT Command, Olatubosun Ajibogun, the surgeries were conducted in line with standard clinical protocols and aimed at improving the health and well-being of the inmates.

Ajibogun revealed that the medical outreach, executed with utmost professionalism and adherence to established clinical standards, exemplifies the resolve of the Controller General of Corrections, Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, to ensure that inmates have access to quality healthcare services in line with global best practices and human rights protocols.

Ajibogun appreciated the medical team for their professionalism and dedication. He noted that the exercise not only relieved the affected inmates of pain and discomfort but also contributed significantly to improving their overall quality of life while in custody.

He stated that the command will continue to provide adequate health and medicare services to inmates in line with international best practices, noting that the successful conduct of the surgeries is a clear reflection of the vision and commitment of the Controller General of Corrections to reform, rehabilitate, and reintegrate inmates into the society as responsible and productive citizens.

The controller reiterated that the command remains steadfast in providing humane and secure custody while upholding the rights and dignity of all persons in its care.
