A health management organisation, Avon HMO, has held a campaign on maternal and child health initiatives in Lagos State, drawing parents’ attention to the role of early childhood development and positive parenting in Nigeria.
The programme, now in its seventh year, engages parents and caregivers through creative activities designed to promote infant health and wellbeing.
This year’s edition, according to the organisation, centred on a denim-themed campaign, encouraging parents to present age-appropriate, playful interpretations of the theme with their children. While the initiative included a contest, organisers said the primary goal was to raise awareness about child health and foster community participation.
Chief Executive Officer of Avon HMO, Osa Imasogie, said the campaign reflected broader concerns about child health.
He said, “Our Avon Baby campaign reflects our belief that healthy beginnings matter.”
He added: “For seven years, this initiative has provided a platform for parents to express love, creativity and pride in their children while reinforcing the importance of infant health. This year once again demonstrated the power of community, creativity and shared values, and we are proud to continue supporting families through initiatives like this.”
However, parents who took part in the programme described the campaign as a meaningful opportunity to engage with their children in ways that combine creativity with care.
One participant, Love Morolani, said the programme inspired her family to explore imaginative ways of interacting with their baby.
“We are extremely excited to have won the Avon Baby Denim Edition. Coming first was truly special for our family. The inspiration came naturally. Our baby always says she wants to be a rockstar, and denim felt like the perfect fit for that idea. We are grateful to Avon HMO for this opportunity,” she said.
Another parent, Nkechi Ogbonna, said the activities encouraged collaboration between parents and helped highlight the importance of nurturing environments for infants.
“It was an honour to participate in the competition, and we are very proud of our baby. When we heard about the denim-on-denim theme, his father, who is very passionate about fashion, came up with the concept. After exploring several ideas, we settled on a look that truly reflected his style. We are grateful to Avon HMO for the recognition and the experience,” she said.
