Global health organisation, Options, is preparing to mark its 30th anniversary with an eminent occasion that will include a high-level panel discussion centered on the theme of unlocking health prosperity and promoting universal health coverage (UHC) in Nigeria.

The Regional Director of Options, Dr. Ufuoma Omo-Obi, shared this announcement with newsmen in Abuja, stating the anniversary theme as, “From Vision to Reality: Unlocking Health Prosperity and Universal Health Coverage in Nigeria.”

Omo-Obi conveyed the organisation’s aspiration to gather influential thought leaders, policymakers, financiers, and healthcare sector stakeholders for a comprehensive discussion on the obstacles and possibilities of achieving UHC by the year 2030.

He emphasised: “This event is of particular significance as Nigeria has renewed its commitment to UHC through the enactment of the Health Insurance bill. Presently, out-of-pocket expenses for healthcare in Nigeria stand at 70 per cent, underscoring the critical need for affordable and accessible healthcare services.

“The event will also encompass enlightening presentations, promoting knowledge exchange, idea sharing, and collaborative problem-solving among attendees,

“Participants will have the opportunity to engage in discussions, networking, and knowledge-sharing sessions that contribute to shaping the future of healthcare in Nigeria and beyond.

“Options’ 30th-anniversary celebration and the high-level panel discussion on unlocking health prosperity and universal health coverage in Nigeria mark a significant milestone in the global health sector.

“It underscores the organization’s dedication to promoting accessible and high-quality healthcare services while driving advancements in healthcare systems.”

Senior consultant for Health Systems and Financing, Dr. Joy Uzoho, also sheds light on Options’ active role in bolstering the creation of a social health insurance scheme and its collaborative efforts with the Nigerian Health Watch in advancing the implementation of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) policy.

Uzoho provided further details, explaining that the organisation has put forth suggestions aimed at ensuring both the adoption and execution of the policy. These recommendations encompass mandatory deductions and tailored awareness campaigns targeted specifically at the informal sector.
