Foundation offers free medical services to Edo communities

Residents of Gbelebu community in Ovia South-West local council of Edo State and its environs have benefited from free medical care services. The services, promoted by the Aaron Ponuwei Ebelo Foundation, were held at the Gbelebu Community headquarters of the foundation. It attracted neighbouring villages such as Madagbayo, Safarogbo and Gbelemotin, and residents were offered free medical services, while some of them were referred to the Iguobazuwa General Hospital for further attention.

The group offered free medical glasses to those with vision problems, medications for minor ailments and free medical check-ups like Blood Pressure (BP), Blood Glucose Test, to determine the general health status of the beneficiaries.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the foundation, the Chief Executive Officer, Farmer Ebelo Limited, and the first son of the late Izon chief, Goodluck Ebelo, said the foundation was established by the children of late Chief Aaron Ponuwei Ebelo, in memory of their father, who was the Okito of Gbelebu, a part of the Arogbo Ijaw-Ibe Clan. It is also meant to sustain his father’s legacy and his love for his people.

“Aaron Ponuwei Ebelo Foundation goes beyond medical outreach. The foundation is also involved in education and entrepreneurial support. And these are not for just Gbelebu people but for everyone from the Arogbo Ijaw-Ibe Clan, who are desirous of such support,” Ebelo said.

One of the beneficiaries of the free medical service, Mrs Ebiere Kimibradigha, expressed gratitude to the foundation, especially for the free glasses provided to her.

About ten medical doctors drawn from general practice and specialised areas, and other medical aides, attended to the health needs of the communities.
