Herbal drink blazes trail on standardisation, creates job for many Nigerians
While the call for scientifically standardised products rocks Africa, a herbal product has shown a glimpse of hope that the demand can be achieved.
Standardisation of herbal medicines is the process of prescribing a set of standards or inherent characteristics, constant parameters, definitive qualitative and quantitative values that carry an assurance of quality, efficacy, safety and reproducibility.
Until now, standardisation had been one of the major challenges with herbal medicines.
Chief Executive Officer of Jigsimur Zedex Global Resources Limited and sole distributor of Jigsimur Herbal drink, Lillian Osuofia, at the 3rd Annual Jigsimur Health Summit and Car Presentation Day, on Sunday, in Lagos, said the product has overcome the challenge of standardisation.
Osuofia called on government to contribute to an herbal drug that eliminates the need of amputation, operations and chemotherapy. Osuofia said she is ready to prove the effectiveness of the herbal drug.
She claimed that several governors, whose names she chose to keep anonymous, had used the product and verified its effectiveness, and had been distributing it to their respective communities.
Osuofia said government and willing donors should assist her financially and policy-wise, to aid expansion of production and marketing of the product because demand is higher than what she could control, as every home needs the product.
She told journalists: “The likes of Cameroon, Ghana, Kenya, Sierra Leone and other African countries are in dire need of the product. Jigsimur has gone through National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) approval since 2018.
“We have created many job opportunities for many Nigerians and given hope to many undergraduates through marketing of this product and it’s reward system.”
At the summit, it was revealed that the founder of Jigsimur, Jonathan Smith, from South Africa, was a cancer patient. This fuelled his desire to seek herbal solutions to various diseases.
Osuofia further explained: “Manufactured under strict hygiene with global best manufacturing practices, the product comes in glass bottles to avoid contamination with it’s container after some time. It has been deployed for the treatment and management of degenerative and chronic diseases, with testimonies accompanying.”
