A traditional medical practitioner, Chief Tony Nwaigwe has attributed poor patronage of products of herbs and roots to the government’s policy, and legislative and legal restrictions, especially in the former Eastern Region of the country.

Nwaigwe who spoke to The Guardian, yesterday, lamented that about one month after the commencement of the Trado-Medical Exhibition at Awka City Stadium, Anambra State, observed that such restrictions have the tendency to affect patronage and exhibition of local herbal products.

He noted that the laws passed by the government were “too hectic” to obey, even as he further condemned placement of restriction on publicity of local drugs.

According to him, indigenous products have more strength and better immunity than their foreign counterparts, hinting that the imported products undergo tropical due diligence before being consumed.

Nwaigwe who is the Executive Director of Tony and Clara Herbal World expressed worry that government discourage local manufacturers of indigenous products by encouraging importation and flooding of local markers with foreign-made products, with its negative impact on foreign reserves.

The herbal practitioner observed that evidence of good climatic factors and better soil could be found in the more strength of local herbs and roots and immunity enjoyed by Africans nay Nigerians as against foreigners during to scourge of COVID-19.

Nwaigwe who is a member of the Nigerian Association of Nigerian Traditional Medical Practitioners of Nigeria (NANTPN) claimed that local drugs could permanently stop ulcer ailment, unlike foreign drugs, which could only control it.

While appreciating the efforts of the government to streamline and harmonize membership of herbal practitioners, he urged government to give the practitioners logistics and infrastructure support to enable it checkmate and regulate the activities of street herbal promoters who make bogus claims to have cure for all ailments.

He hinted that there has been good news of treatment and cure o malaria, which according to him has defied orthodox medication, stressing that certain foreign countries are not aware of malaria scourge.
