Honoris-owned Nile University of Nigeria leverages Pan-African Network’s capital investments to drive student success
Strong academics and a supportive experience while on campus are very important. A university’s facilities play a critical role in the success of a student’s journey. Since being acquired by Honoris United Universities— the first and largest pan-African private higher education network— in 2020, Nile University has embarked on an accelerated, multifaceted capital investment project designed to support the university’s academic credentials and bolster our standing as one of Nigeria’s foremost institutions, developing world-class African and Global ready human talent with the needed 21st-century skills to thrive in the globally disrupted world of work.
The latest phase of this project resulted in the completion of two (2) units of 250-bed capacity on-campus hostels for our male and female students, two (2) units of 500 seating capacity multipurpose halls for our male and female students, a 6,000sqm state-of-the-art Law Faculty building, upgraded water storage to cater for the increased and rapidly growing student population, improved synchronized power substations and the installation of an 876-kWp solar power system to facilitate uninterrupted power supply to the entire campus.
Nile University’s new ultramodern hostels are equipped with fully functional air conditioners, WI-FI, and 24/7 power and water supply, amongst other features ensuring the utmost comfort for students and providing them the ideal environment to excel within the wide portfolio of programs across our six faculties. Our hostels provide our students with a safe and secure environment on campus and strong pastoral care to enable them develop life skills.
The Law Faculty building, opening in March 2022, is a 2,000-capacity edifice that houses spacious and modern classrooms and academic spaces for technology-enabled teaching and learning, enhancing Nile University’s ability to provide its Law students with the necessary competencies to enable them to succeed in the ever-changing and demanding legal profession.
In the same vein, installing the sustainable solar power system ensures the provision of uninterrupted, clean power on the campus for decades, whilst supporting movements toward environmentally sustainable utilities. With this power solution, the university has further strengthened its ability to deliver 21st-century, technology-supported teaching and learning necessary to boost its students’ competitiveness in the global job market.
Other transformative capital investments that Nile University has enjoyed since its acquisition by Honoris include an off campus building that provides housing and academic facilities for our medical students undergoing clinicals at the Asokoro District Hospital, Abuja, and the expansion and optimization of our College of Health Sciences’ labs. Further investment has been made in Wuse District Hospital and the community health centers in Gwagwa and Kuchingoro to serve our students and these communities well.
The aforementioned projects constitute phase 1 of our long-term plans. In phase 2, we plan to construct an additional 1,000-plus bed hostel on campus, a dedicated and modern STEM laboratory for our science and engineering disciplines, an additional 5,000sqm/1,600 student capacity Academic Block, a 3,000 sqm Student Learning and Collaboration Center to include theatres, a restaurant and food court, spaces for clubs and other activities, as well as a Career and Employment Center to ensure our students’ life readiness.
The additional 1,000 beds will bring our total capacity to over 2,500 beds, significantly boosting Nile University’s on-campus housing capacity and ability to offer more students the opportunity to enjoy our unique and top-quality on-campus experience. Likewise, the additional academic block and dedicated laboratory building signify our commitment to STEM education at Nile University and in Africa at large.
